Spotlight on Girls: Student Serves as Panelist at the Upstate Latino Summit
Ebony Belmar brought along her student, Lucy, to the Upstate Latino Summit in Albany to serve on a panel during a Youth Engagement Workshop.
Ebony reports: “Lucy and I talked about the benefits of Girls’ Day Out & Girls’ Circles – how being around positive women has helped her to make good choices about her future. Lucy talked about how Girls’ Circles gives her a chance to meet girls that might not normally talk to her and it gives her a chance to learn more about other girls & their culture. Lucy was a good choice because she is quiet and would usually get lost or overlooked. She recently migrated to the US and her family is working to find their niche.”
Upstate Latino Summit organizer Janet Sapio-Mayta said that Lucy and her fellow student, Xavier, did an “amazing” and “phenomenal” job as panelists, and the workshop got “rave reviews.”
