Spotlight on Girls: Student Serves as Panelist at the Upstate Latino Summit

Ebony Belmar brought along her student, Lucy, to the Upstate Latino Summit in Albany to serve on a panel during a Youth Engagement Workshop. Ebony reports: "Lucy and I talked about the benefits of Girls' Day Out & Girls' Circles – how being around positive women has helped her to make good choices about her future. Lucy talked about how Girls' Circles gives her a chance to meet girls that might not normally talk to her and it gives her a chance to learn more about other girls & their culture. Lucy was a good choice because she is quiet and would usually get lost or overlooked. She recently migrated to the US and her family is working to ...

We've been fine-tuning our new website and we've joined LinkedIn: please follow us or declare yourself our colleague if you're on LinkedIn. Along with planning our annual Girls' Day Out on November 16th, WGGS helped present a presentation on Digital Citizenship and Social Media for parents at the downtown Schnectady Public Library on November 1st. The teen panelists shared their views on social media, and it was enlightening for the rest of ...

Digital Citizenship

We heard from local teens as they talked about the ups and downs of their digital lives at our program Digital Citizenship and Social Media: A Conversation for Families on  November 1 in the McChensey Room at the Schenectady Central Library. They discussed issues like how social media affects their relationships and their lives and gave us candid information about activities like cyber-bullying and sexting. We are hoping to have more workshops like these in the future to educate parents and the community so that we can guide our 'tweens and teens to make good choices. We'll list upcoming events here, and you can also subscribe to our events ...
